Napoli striker Ezequiel Lavezzi has played down talks of a potential move to Liverpool.

The Argentine international has been closely linked with the Reds despite rumours suggesting otherwise and his denial of any knowledge has been backed by Rafael Benitez.

"They know my telephone number, but no one has called me yet," Lavezzi told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Benitez was quoted on the club's official website as firmly denying any approach for Lavezzi.

"We never contacted Lavezzi and we have no intention of doing so," said Benitez. "We want to put a stop to these rumours."
