Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he first approached Andre Villas-Boas for the vacant managerial role.
After Walter Mazzarri departed for Inter Milan in May, De Laurentiis was keen to bring Tottenham's Villas-Boas to the Stadio San Paolo but instead settled for former Liverpool boss and Chelsea caretaker Rafael Benitez.
"I contacted Villas-Boas, but he had to go in the USA on tour, so I spoke with Rafa Benitez and he convinced me to choose him immediately," he told Radio Marte.
