Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has sensationally revealed he bid for Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi.

There had been reports of a proposal after Gonzalo Higuain's €90m transfer to Juventus in the summer of 2016.

"I met with his wife one afternoon in their office, she was very nice. I offered €55-60m. We also negotiated for a possible contract.

“Icardi is a world class striker and he would score 40 goals under the guidance of Maurizio Sarri. He could become like Ronaldo."

Would De Laurentiis make that same offer for Icardi again?
