Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis has launched a furious attack on his football staff.
Azzurri coach Roberto Donadoni has called for one more signing, but De Laurentiis snapped: “If he wants one, he can buy it himself.
“We didn’t have [Juan] Zuniga on the right because of an injury, so I ask why didn’t we test [Jesus] Datolo, seeing as in Argentina he played on the left? Why did we sign him? When will be the right time for these experiments?
“The lad is fired up after being called by Diego Maradona to play for Argentina. I’ve been waiting years for two decent wingers. They keep making me buy players and yet we always have problems in those areas.”
Donadoni was the focus of that rant, but the President had more to say about director of sport Pierpaolo Marino.
“We have so many players we could take part in two championships. Let’s sell them, I told my director of sport, but for five years we’ve been unable to release anybody. Why keep using them when we know they are not needed?
“Why didn’t we just bring along the youth players who have impressed in the Primavera team? Enough is enough.
“I am also sick of this talk about lacking international experience. If someone is talented, he will be good at the age of 20. Who else am I supposed to sign in order to target success? You tell me.”
