Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has welcomed the resignation of FIGC president Carlo Tavecchio.
De Laurentiis says the decision made was the right one for Italian football.
"Did I ask for Tavecchio to resign? It's not like that," De Laurentiis is quoted by TuttoNapoli.
“It just seemed to me that the problem wasn't only the fact that Italy didn't qualify for the World Cup.
“I'm very disappointed for Tavecchio, but the Federation is good for Serie B, Serie C, and not the top division.
“So I think this is a chance not so much to get rid of someone, but to rebuild in a way that's never been done, always starting from the leagues.
“We need a permanent body that studies and modernises football as the world changes, because it's been changing for so long.
“I don't know who the right replacement would be, I'm just saying that in my opinion the Federation doesn't seem to care about Serie A anymore. I don't want to be tied to the Federation."
