Napoli midfielder Marek Hamsik admits he came close to joining Borussia Dortmund.

Hamsik, 31, was close to leaving Napoli last summer.

“I was close to Borussia Dortmund and I negotiated with the club, it's true," he told Bild.

“However, the negotiations weren't so easy. I was told that Borussia had to sell some of their players before they could sign me.

“This negotiations dragged on until August. At the time I'd already started preparing for the new season with Napoli and I didn't want to leave.

“When I joined Napoli, the team weren't in a good way but we've grown a lot and we have built something together.

“Barcelona and Real Madrid have always been attractive to me, but I have no regrets. I'd make the same choices again."
