Arsenal have received a boost in their aim to sign Berd Leno as a replacement for Petr Cech as Napoli have reportedly abandoned their plans to sign the shot-stopper.

Although there are no plans to let go of Cech, the veteran is now 35 and clearly past his peak as his performances have been questionable this season.

The Gunners were previously rumoured to be facing competition from Napoli in the race to sign Leno as the Italian giants are looking for a replacement for Pepe Reina, who is set to join AC Milan.

However, Gazetta dello Sport have reported that Napoli are prepared to abandon their chase for Leno as they shift their attention towards signing Genoa's Matia Perin.

David Ospina is rumoured to be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season in search of first-team football and the club's head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will need to sign a new keeper this summer.
