Napoli have made a move for Arsenal captain Thomas Vermaelen.

Napoli have sounded out Arsenal about signing out-of-favour Vermaelen, says the Sunday Mirror.

The 28-year-old's contract expires at the end of next season and despite his lack of playing time this term, Arsene Wenger still wants to offer him a new deal.

Wenger is a firm admirer of the Belgian, who he signed from Dutch giants Ajax for £10million in 2009, and wants to retain his services.
