Napoli coach Maurizio Sarri hailed victory over AC Milan.
Lorenzo Insigne and Jose Callejon capped off an initial masterclass, though Juraj Kucka sparked a comeback for a more even second half.
“We knew it was going to be a difficult game and we suffered to get the victory," Sarri told Sky Sport Italia.
“Unfortunately we again started misplacing easy passes and gifting it to the opposition, so that is never a good idea and it put us under pressure.
“The game was in our hands as long as we attacked the space, then we started to pass it around in midfield, making it easier for Milan to close down the channels. It was a mistake to not realise Milan were on the verge of going under and we didn't inflict the final blow.
“We showed our usual limitations, but there were steps forward, because we held out for the win and started to control the ball a bit better as time wore on.
“These lads have got to realise they have great potential, without losing their humility, and find that determination to become a great team. We're already a good team, but can become great.
“I did see a step forward in terms of mentality today and we showed maturity, so that's an excellent sign."
