Rangers midfielder Steven Naismith is backing their bid for Aston Villa defender Carlos Cuellar.
Villa have accepted a bid from Gers for the stopper.
"I've said before that Carlos is one of the best defenders I've played with," said Naismith. "His performances were first class and it would be great to play alongside him again.
"I'm sure he is still the player he was then, if not better. It would be great if we could get him back.
"It would give us more of a foundation at the back and we'd start to look very strong defensively. We've already got Madjid Bougherra, David Weir and Kirk Broadfoot, so Carlos would make that four quality centre-halves."
