Naismith to quit Rangers as uncertainty mounts

Steven Naismith has decided not to switch his contract over to the newco that will continue on as Rangers FC.

The Glasgow club will learn their fate on July 4 when all Scottish Premier League clubs meet to determine whether or not Rangers, to be known as 'The Rangers FC', will play in Scotland's top flight next season and it is that uncertainty which has forced Naismith , as well as Steven Whittaker, to become free agents.

"The reason for the decision I've made is, at this moment in my career, the uncertainty of what division the new company will be playing in," he said.

"There's too much uncertainty there for me at this stage in my career to be waiting around to see where that is.

"I would hope to be playing at the highest level possible.

"I feel as though I would be getting held back if I was to move down divisions in Scotland to play."
