Steven Naismith says his aim is still to be a centre forward for Rangers despite the stiff competition from Kris Boyd and Kenny Miller. But, right now, the 23-year-old admits he is just happy to be back in the team again and making the most of the opportunity to make an impact for the Scottish champions.

He said: "I came through as a striker but when you are at a club like Rangers, you can't just turn up and say 'I'm playing up front'.

"You need to take your chances when they come. On Saturday I played on the left and against Dundee United I played in central midfield but I'm just happy to be back in the team.

"Ultimately, I see myself as a forward but I don't think there will be too many players getting in front of Boydy and Kenny with the way they have been performing this season.

"The manager needs everybody and I've played through the middle a few times this season and I played up there myself against Sevilla in the Champions League.

"It's just a case of doing well when you get the chance. This season it has been Boydy and Kenny but in the future I hope to get a chance."
