Naismith: Green's Rangers exit vindicates my decision to join Everton

Steven Naismith was blasted last summer for deciding to leave Rangers when the club was liquidated and restructured.

The 26-year old attacker signed with Everton in July last year and after copping some backlash from 'Gers fans, feels the resignation of Charles Green as chief executive has vindicated his decision to leave.

"Mr Green worked hard to try and discredit the players who left. He publicly attacked myself and the others who chose not to accept his offer," said Scotland international Naismith.

"But time seems to be offering a clearer perspective on why players like myself chose not to sign over the control of their careers to this man.

"I wonder how many people today, knowing what they know, would think it a good idea to just sign away the best years of their career to Mr Green?"

Naismith added: "I will always wish Rangers the very best. I grew up a Rangers fan and always will be a Rangers fan.

"But I'm also a professional sportsman. This is my job and how I pay my mortgage and provide for my family.

"Last summer I had an obligation to my family to act in our best interests."
