Nagoya Grampus's Kennedy buoyed by vital Australia goal

Josh Kennedy was overjoyed to have scored the goal that sent Australia to the 2014 World Cup.

The 30-year old Nagoya Grampus striker worked his way clear in the area to head home Mark Bresciano's cross in the 83rd minute as the Socceroos eventually overcame Iraq 1-0 in Sydney and was thrilled to mark his first international appearance since 2011 with a crucial goal.

"I really don't know what to say. It was amazing. I'm just really proud of the boys and really happy with the goal," he told Fox Sports.

"I guess it was meant to be. The boss was just saving something for the last game… (It's) an amazing night.

"It's been a long road to get back where I am now, and this is the icing on the cake, definitely."
