Muscat becomes caretaker coach at Melbourne Victory

Melbourne Victory legend Kevin Muscat has temporarily taken the reins as head coach of the club.

The 38-year old has stepped in as caretaker coach after the club sacked Mehmet Durakovic after a poor start to the A-League season.

"After 14 games the club is in a position which is not acceptable and change is required," said Victory chairman Anthony Di Pietro.

"With 13 games left, we still think the club can have success this season.

"Kevin Muscat will be caretaker for (tomorrow's match) against Newcastle and he took training this morning.

"The appointment of a new head coach is imminent and an announcement will be made in the next 24 or 48 hours."

However, it is apparent that Muscat, a former Wolves, Rangers and Millwall defender/midfielder, is not a candidate for the full-time position.
