Danny Murphy could not hide his delight after Fulham's 1-0 win over Portsmouth that confirmed their Premiership survival.

The former Tottenham and Liverpool midfielder scored the only goal of the game to keep Fulham in the top flight for another year as they barely escaped relegation.

"I think after the Man City win we believed we could stay up," Murphy told Setanta Sports.

"The win against Birmingham last week left us with a great chance and we knew at half-time that we had to win.

"The manager told us to stay calm and don't go panicking running all over the place.

"We won it from a set-play. I'm not even supposed to be going into the box, I don't know what I was doing going in but I just fancied it."
