Mrdja red card to be reviewed by Melbourne

Melbourne Victory will review the red card decision involving loanee striker Nik Mrdja.

The 31-year old scored in the first half of last night's 2-1 semi-final first leg win over Sydney FC but was also sent off for an elbow on Sky Blues defender Shannon Cole in the 74th minute.

A straight red card brings with immediate expulsion from the pitch as well as a two-match ban which means Mrdja will miss the second leg of the semi and the Victory's next game after that which will be either the Preliminary or Grand Final.

The Victory have confirmed they will review the footage from the incident and decide what to do because Mrdja's loss is massive due to the fact their strikers are all on the injury list.

"It's not an obvious red card error, which is the only thing we can do immediately," Victory football operations manager Gary Cole said.

"He definitely made contact with him, so we'll review all that and have a look at the scenario."
