Everton boss Dave Moyes admits he tried desperately to sign Roy Keane.

The Scot tried to sign Keane after the Irishman announced he was quitting Manchester United as a player two years ago.

But Keane opted for Celtic - much to Moyes' disappointment.

Moyes said: "I like Roy's style. He was more interested in the team and the club than personal success.

"It wasn't a case of me, me, me with Roy. I liked the thought of working with that type of person.

"Not only would we have been good for him, but I think Roy would have been good for us as well.

"He has taken to management well and has been successful in a short space of time."
