Moyes wants to bring Everton spirit to West Ham

West Ham boss David Moyes wants to bring the spirit of Everton to his new club.

After taking over on Monday, he sees the challenge at the Hammers as similar to when he walked into Everton's dressing room in 2002 after leaving Preston.

He said: “Walking into Everton, I had no self-doubt regarding coaching, management, leadership.

“I took over Everton just outside the relegation zone and we had six or seven games left and we stayed up.

“The following year we did well and then the next one we were just outside it again.

“Next year we were up and then down again. We then stabilised and didn't finish outside the top places for the last five years of the job."

He added: “I am going to be direct with the players and if they don't like it then sorry but I just don't have time to pander to their needs.

“We need to get through to them quickly.

“If West Ham end up getting to where the Everton team was when I left they will be loving it."
