Moyes wants Neville to remain with Everton after retirement

Everton boss David Moyes wants skipper Phil Neville to stay involved with the club long after retirement.

The former Manchester United defender signed a new deal with Everton earlier this week.

"Phil is a big player for us," Moyes told evertonfc.com. "Over the years he has been here he has done tremendously well and he is an important member of the team.

"He has a big influence in the way he puts himself across as captain on the field - he takes responsibility for the team - and he works ever so hard in training to make sure he is in the best possible shape he can be in.

"And off the field he is a great ambassador for Everton Football Club. He speaks very well about the club and speaks very well about his teammates and he is someone they should all look up to.

"The worry (with players like Neville) is how you replace them, but in time, if Phil wants there will always be a place in the coaching staff here for him.

"He is a great professional and has a great attitude to his work. I don't know exactly what Phil wants to do but the type of man he is, we would be delighted to have him here."
