David Moyes is keen to sign Everton fullback Leighton Baines for Manchester United.
The Daily Mail says with doubts persisting over Patrice Evra's future at Old Trafford, United are searching for a top-class left back.
Baines, 27, is well known to United's incoming manager Moyes and is the preferred option.
Evra is far from finished at United, but it may mean that other players on their books, such as Fabio, may be pushed even further from the first team.
Baines may also be followed by Marouane Fellaini, who was thought to be close to a United move even before Moyes had signed for the Manchester club.
