Moyes rules out West Ham move for Joao Mario or William Carvalho

West Ham United manager David Moyes is adamant the club needs recruitment before the window closes if they want to guarantee safety by the end of the season.

Not only are the Hammers involved in a serious relegation fight, where anyone from below 10th in the table could go down, but they are dealing with injuries to key players.

While Moyes is hoping those players can come back soon, he knows the club needs reinforcements.

Moyes said: "I don't want it to be a lucky dip. I don't want to be taking just anything for the sake of it. Look, we're short, and I would like to get the injured players back.

"But even when they are all back we are still short, definitely. If you look at the size of the squad we are down by probably two players.

"If we can pick something up we really want in the next week or two we will try to do something."

Asked about whether Joao Mario or William Carvalho could arrive this month, Moyes said: "One was meant to be a loan and the other would have been a transfer which I don't think will happen now because Sporting are top of the League.

"So that would be a no as far as I am concerned."
