Incoming Manchester United boss David Moyes had supportive words for Wayne Rooney last night.

Rooney's future is clouded after he had a transfer request rejected a fortnight ago.

Moyes does not officially succeed Sir Alex Ferguson at United until July 1 but it is understood he will start attending to business next week.

And he told the Cambridge Union last night: "Wayne Rooney is an incredible player. If you are an England supporter, you are thinking what a great player you have."
