Former Manchester United and Everton boss David Moyes says Wayne Rooney deserves to be regarded as an England great.
Rooney collects his 100th cap this week.
Moyes told the Sunday Mirror: "Wayne already deserves to be remembered as one of England's greatest players.
"To get 100 caps before the age of 30 is an incredible achievement, and to be so close to Sir Bobby Charlton's goals record puts him alongside the very best.
"This hasn't been a vintage era for English football in terms of winning international tournaments.
"Sir Bobby has that aura about him because he has the goals record and because he was part of the team that won the World Cup in 1966.
"Wayne hasn't got that. But, along with Steven Gerrard, he has carried the hopes of a nation for a decade and more. I don't think that should be forgotten.
"In the modern era, Rooney has been the best. He'll definitely be remembered as one of the greats."
