Moyes hoping QPR win kickstarts Sunderland momentum

Sunderland manager David Moyes is hopeful that the EFL Cup win over QPR will inspire a good run in the Premier League for the Wearside club.

The Black Cats, who are yet to register a league win this season and are currently placed second-last on the table, defeated the Championship side 2-1 at Loftus Road in the third-round tie thanks to a late brace from Paddy McNair.

He said: "We want to get a bit of momentum going.

"I hope it's the start of a run of games which gives us a bit of confidence and we get that winning feeling in the club.

"It was a good result for us. The players have been really resilient, they work really hard but I would like them to be more aggressive.

"There is a little bit, it still isn't the way I want it but we need to use this and build on it.

"We need to go into the next games showing what we can do and play better.

"Tonight was the first win, it is not going to change the season but I am going to use it to get us moving up the league."

Sunderland meet eighth-placed Crystal Palace at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
