David Moyes has been hit by an injury crisis at Manchester United.

United defender Chris Smalling will miss the start of the season after undergoing another operation on the foot injury he suffered at the end of last season.

With skipper Nemanja Vidic, Wayne Rooney, Nani, Ashley Young and Alexander Buttner also sidelined with injuries, Moyes could see his selection options limited at the start of the season.

United face arguably their toughest-ever start to a Premier League season this year, facing title rivals Manchester City, Chelsea and old foes Liverpool in their first five games.
