Moyes delighted with Everton's UEFA Cup victory

Everton boss Dave Moyes was delighted with the performance of his players in last night's 3-1 UEFA Cup victory over Larissa.

On his first start since the beginning of March after a metatarsal injury, Australia midfielder Tim Cahill opened the scoring with a delightful diving header in the 14th minute.

It was classic Cahill and in the 50th minute his outstanding pass helped to orchestrate Leon Osman's brilliant clincher from 22 yards.

A 65th-minute strike from Cleyton Alexandre Silva had home nerves jangling but substitute Victor Anichebe ensured Everton rounded off proceedings with a superb late third.

Moyes said: "We were very good - at times it was excellent but one moment of madness made us a feel a bit uneasy.

"But overall we were happy with our performance. We were 2-0 up and more than comfortable, and I thought we scored a wonderful second goal through Leon.

"We got a little bit carried away at that point and did one or two silly things, but in the main the performance was excellent and the third goal was a great goal from Victor."

And with Thomas Gravesen also making a return to action after injury, Everton followers left Goodison Park encouraged that their side can make a serious impression on the UEFA Cup this season.

Moyes said: "Now we've got competition for places and we're still needing to get Tim completely match-fit and we're still needing to get Tommy in the right condition.

"But there positives tonight that we've got them going in the right direction."
