Moyes buoyed by Sunderland effort in loss to Arsenal

Sunderland manager David Moyes was happy to see his team improve their effort despite losing to Arsenal 2-0 on Tuesday night.

The reaction comes after the Black Cats were slaughtered last Saturday at home to Swansea; a performance that Moyes said was simply not good enough.

Speaking to the club's website after the Arsenal loss, Moyes said: "We can put our name to that performance.

"We didn't like Saturday's – the players were well aware of that and they didn't like [the performance] either.

"Tonight we showed a lot of character and a great deal of effort. We performed in a good way, which gave us a chance."
