Moyes, Benitez, Rodgers, Pearson on Newcastle radar

Newcastle United are believed to be lining up a list of candidates to replace the under-fire Steve McClaren.

According to The Guardian, David Moyes and Rafael Benitez are at the top of the agenda as the Magpies begin the search for McClaren's replacement.

It is believed that the former England boss will be sacked by the north east club in the next day or two and the Toon hierarchy are keen to bring in an experienced manager in a bid to avoid relegation.

Former Everton, Manchester United and Real Sociedad boss Moyes is being heavily linked with the St James' Park job while Spaniard Benitez, who was sacked by Real Madrid in early January, is also being considered.

It has been suggested that Moyes is very interested in the job and would jump at the chance if offered the role.

Newcastle owner Mike Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley are also believed to be looking at ex-Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers as well as former Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson.
