Moyes bemoans Man Utd defending in Chelsea loss

Manchester United boss David Moyes was left to rue his side's defensive showing as they were beaten 3-1 at Chelsea on Sunday.

Samuel Eto'o's first of three goals deflected in off Michael Carrick in the 17th minute before he slotted home Gary Cahill's low cross from just outside the six-yard box on the stroke of half-time.

The Cameroonian completed his treble early in the second half when he turned and screwed home a Cahill header from Willian's corner before a late consolation from Javier Hernandez.

It was the poor defensive efforts from United which really got to Moyes who saw his side fall 14 points behind league leaders Arsenal.

"We got a bit unlucky with the first goal and a deflection but the other two came from set-pieces and that is our own fault and that is nobody else's fault. Terrible defending on the first goal and just as bad on one just after half-time," he told Sky Sports.

"I thought we played quite well at times, especially in first period but we just lacked that bit. We just needed someone to take on one of their chances.

"I knew the game would be tight, and it was except two set-pieces which has really changed the game. Apart from that I think we have had as many chances if not more than Chelsea. We had done a lot of good things in the game but football is about scoring goals and we didn't and Chelsea did.

"We can only blame ourselves, nobody else."
