Mowbray praises Middlesbrough's McDonald for playing through pain barrier

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray has heaped praise on Scott McDonald for donning the club shirt and playing on the weekend despite being injured.

The Australian striker got through 75 minutes of Boro's 2-0 home loss to Burnley on Saturday even though he struggled with a problem during the week and Mowbray was quick to commend him on his efforts.

"We were desperately struggling for strikers," he told the club's official website after the match.

"Scott deserves great credit for playing today. Two days ago it looked as though he was going to be out for three weeks but he's put his shirt on and played."
