Mowbray playing the waiting game for new Middlesbrough striker

Middlesbrough boss Tony Mowbray is remaining patient as he attempts to find a striker to bolster the club's Premiership promotion push. He told the club's official website: "Generally, the more people selling clubs get interested in a footballer, the better it is for them.

"It's very, very rare a deal gets done on day one of the transfer window unless it's been set up in advance.

"We are trying hard and asking questions of clubs, and we have got a few targets. The chairman and chief operating officer are working hard behind the scenes. We are looking and asking questions.

"We have been talking to quite a number of clubs about their players. The wheels are turning and hopefully, we are closer. Let's see what comes out in the next week or two."
