Mowbray: No Swansea contact for Middlesbrough defender Bates

Middlesbrough defender Matthew Bates is to remain skipper of the Championship club despite reports of interest from Premiership new boys Swansea. The 24-year-old has been repeatedly linked with the Swans and Boro boss Tony Mowbray is growing increasingly frustrated with the speculation.

He told the club's official website: "There's still no contact from Swansea and we are just getting on with it.

"The frustration for me is that I keep reading about it in the paper and it's obviously unsettling for the boy.

"The bottom line is I've had one general conversation with [Swans boss] Brendan [Rodgers] and then nothing.

"There are no offers and nothing concrete at all, so in my mind there's nothing happening with that and we continue as normal."
