Moutinho blamed for AVB, Levy split at Spurs

Joao Moutinho is being blamed for the irreparable rift between Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and former manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Villas-Boas left Spurs yesterday barely 24 hours after their 5-0 home humiliation on Sunday to Liverpool.

The Telegraph says the relationship between manager and chairman had started awkwardly with the sale of Luka Modric in the summer of 2012 and the failure to sign Moutinho at the 11th hour as his replacement – after apparently haggling over €500,000 on a €31 million (£26 million) bid – and it rarely improved after that.

Moutinho was to eventually leave Porto for AS Monaco.

Villas-Boas was devastated not to acquire Moutinho and believed that he struggled to get any of the players he wanted signed by Spurs.
