Jose Mourinho wants to take Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso with him to Chelsea. The Independent says it is understood that Mourinho has already identified former Liverpool favourite Alonso as one of his first recruits should he return to the capital to replace Rafa Benitez.
The 31-year-old Spain international, who won the Champions League with Liverpool in 2005, is out of contract next season and is yet to respond to an offer of a two-year contract extension at Madrid.
Alonso is also being linked with former club Liverpool.
