Inter Milan boss Jose Mourinho is determined to prise Elano away from Manchester City.

As a further example of how power has shifted to the Barclays Premier League, Mourinho hopes that the Brazil international will be surplus to requirements when City flex their financial muscle during the next transfer window.

Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport reports that Inter tried to sign Elano last January but were knocked back because the former Shakhtar Donetsk player was the key man in City's fantastic start to life under Sven-Goran Eriksson.

But the 27-year-old has since been overshadowed by big-money moves for forwards Robinho, Jo and Shaun Wright-Phillips.
