Incoming Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho intends to have Michael Essien as part of his first team squad.

Essien spent the second-half of the season on-loan at Real Madrid with Mourinho.

The London Evening Standard says the 30-year-old has suffered from three serious knee injuries at Chelsea in recent years, but was still mysteriously allowed to leave last August and has enjoyed playing regularly at the Spanish giants this term.
