Mourinho wants Eriksson wages for England job

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho wants £4 million-a-year to take on the England coaching job.

According to reports, Mourinho's wages will have to match those paid to Sven-Goran Eriksson if fans are to get the man they want to lead England to the next World Cup.

Steve McClaren, sacked after England's failure to reach the Euro 2008 finals, was on £2.5m a year for his disappointing 16 months in charge, with the FA wary of paying wages as high as Eriksson's ever again due to the large pay-off involved if the coach is unsuccessful.

However, in Mourinho's case, supporters are likely to demand Soho Square make an exception and break the bank to land the former Chelsea manager.
