Mourinho tells Man Utd full-back Shaw to work like Mkhitaryan: 'I give nothing for free'

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has found himself out of favour under Jose Mourinho, but the manager has implored the England international to fight his way into his plans like Henrikh Mkhitaryan did.

The 21-year-old hasn't played a league game for the Red Devils since October, was only an unused substitute in the recent FA Cup over Wigan Athletic and didn't feature in the match-day squad for the Europa League win over St Etienne last week.

When asked about Shaw's lack of playing time, Mourinho explained: "Because I am playing with Daley Blind, with Marcos Rojo, with Matteo Darmian and all of them are playing the way I like a full-back to play.

"Luke has to wait for his chance and work better knowing that I give nothing for free.

"When I give something to the players it's expensive for them, they have to work really hard every day. They have to play well so he has to wait.

"In this moment he is behind the others. Potentially he has many things that I like, but potential is one thing and another is on the pitch to express all the qualities that I like a player to express.

"He has to keep working like Mkhitaryan for a long time."
