Mourinho's title-winning side of 2005 outpoints current Chelsea - Neville

Gary Neville believes Chelsea's teams of 2005 and 2006 are better than this season's champions.

The Blues took a massive step towards the 2014/15 Barclays Premier League title by defeating Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday night and now just need a win over Crystal Palace on Sunday to clinch the premiership.

With the title now only days away from returning to Stamford Bridge, former Manchester United skipper Neville admits he is a big admirer of Jose Mourinho's current team but suggests that the Blues of a decade ago were slightly better.

"If you ask Jose Mourinho he'd say they are a little bit behind what they were back in 2005 and that team that he had, but you still get the feeling it is a growing team and a team that will get better," he said on Sky Sports'Gary Neville Podcast.

"It needs additions again in the summer, but the other teams, make no mistake about it, are the teams with the catching up to do.

"They have got to try to make up that 10 or 15 points that they are going to be behind.

"All teams are looking at the same players. Chelsea have recruited well over the last two years and have been smart.

"Jose Mourinho has won the league three times in five and he is the man to beat. Chelsea are the team to beat and the others have got to chase them down and hunt them down."
