Jose Mourinho handed in his resignation yesterday to Chelsea, it has been revealed.

O Jogo says while Chelsea have claimed that the decision to part was reached by mutual consent, Mourinho dictated the terms of his departure.

Dissatisfied with various situations that had developed at the club, Mourinho placed his resignation request on the table, and that was immediately accepted by the London club, which set a date of today [Thursday] to discuss terms.

It was Mourinho who initiated the move, but ... there is room for a financial settlement between the parties, though that will be far from the figure that he would have been due had he been dismissed from his contract [lasting until 2010].
