Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho says the players know why he was critical after their Champions League win at Manchester United.
Mourinho declared "the best side lost" afterwards to the shock of the Madrid press.
He explained: "There are people who think they can analyse me, get into my head and understand everything I do, but they don't know what I was trying to do with what I said after the match. And it doesn't bother me either.
"What I was trying to do at that moment was make my team aware that there is still a long way to go, that we haven't achieved anything yet and that in the last minutes you have to try to control the match in a different way and that you don't have to turn your goalkeeper into the man of the match. That's what the goalkeeper is there for, but I don't like my goalkeeper to be the best player when we have an extra man.
"I would have liked the team to control the match calmly and we did not do that. But Manchester United are like that and my players said at the end of the match that it wasn't easy, and I understand. Every knows about 'Fergie Time', which is the last five or ten minutes of Manchester United's matches at Old Trafford, where over the years Ferguson and his players have made historical fight-backs based on passion and their connection with the fans. That's why it was not easy. It was a great win, but Real Madrid can never be happy with getting to the quarter finals and we always have to look to go further. That's why we are already thinking about making it to the semi-finals."
