Jose Mourinho is yet to decide if he will accept the England job.
A source close to Mourinho told The Sun: "There was a meeting with the FA and Jorge Mendes outlined the parameters that would make Jose accept the position.
"But there has been absolutely no decision made yet - and nothing will be decided for a few days."
Mourinho wants a two-and-a-half year deal to take him to the 2010 World Cup.
Should he accept the job, his aim would be to lead England to glory in South Africa and then return to club management.
Mourinho's official spokesman Eladio Parames confirmed the meeting with the FA and said the Portuguese manager is now expecting an official offer.
Parames said: "I'm not going to hide that there were contacts because there have been. Jose Mourinho is available to receive an offer."
