Mourinho picks out Man Utd trio Martial, Rooney, Fellaini for high praise

Jose Mourinho pinpointed three players who performed admirably for Manchester United on Sunday.

The Red Devils defeated Burnley 2-0 at Turf Moor thanks to first-half goals from Anthony Martial and Wayne Rooney and a strong defensive display from midfielder Marouane Fellaini.

Regarding French forward Martial, Mourinho said: "If the attitude is right, if the brain is right, if the desire is right, everybody knows the qualities he has, so I'm really pleased with what he did for us."

Captain Rooney played a full 90 minutes in the absence of the injured Zlatan Ibrahimovic and was important in the victory.

Mourinho added: "I was thinking about one hour. I gave him 90 minutes because he was solid, he was in the game, he was intelligent holding the ball for us, assisting [by] coming inside to play.

"I don't even [need to] speak about an important goal. A captain for us."

And of Fellaini's display, the Portuguese said: "I would say [we play with] three centre-backs because Marouane was there to mark the direct football and to give protection to the other two, but I think all three [including Daley Blind and Eric Bailly] were really solid, I repeat, against an opponent which is difficult to cope with."

Describing the overall team performance, Mourinho said: "Individual performances, top. Collective performance, top. Total control of the game.

"Very difficult place to play and I think, since the beginning of the game, we had a feeling that we were going to win the game. Even in the second half, [it was] closer to 3-0 than 2-1. Very good really."
