Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is ready to hand a lifeline to Victor Valdes.
Signed and then shunned by former United manager Louis van Gaal, Valdes ended the season on-loan with Standard Liege.
Valdes helped Standard win the Belgian Cup, but didn't do enough to earn a permanent transfer.
Mourinho, who worked with Valdes at Barcelona, has told the Spaniard he wants him to join United's preseason with the view to earning a place in his first team squad next term.
Valdes' deal expires in June, but there is the option to extend it a further 12 months and Mourinho is happy to give the Barca hero the chance to revive his United career.
During his three years as Real Madrid coach, Mourinho always rated Valdes as a superior keeper to Iker Casillas.
