Mourinho hints at underdone Man Utd players as cause for Feyenoord defeat

Jose Mourinho feels a handful of Manchester United players appearing for the first time this campaign may have contributed to Thursday night's loss.

The Red Devils went down 1-0 to Dutch club Feyenoord in their Europa League opener with Matteo Damian, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young getting their first taste of action for the new season.

Morgan Schneiderlin started for the first time after just five minutes in the Premier League, Chris Smalling was also in the XI having hardly featured and Memphis Depay came on in the second half after just a minute of game time previously.

Of the changes he made to the team, Mourinho said:"Look I don't want to personalise.

"Some of the players were playing their first minutes of the season, not many minutes for them.

"Obviously some played better than others but I have to understand that some of these players haven't played week after week like the other boys."

Tonny Vilhena scored a late winner for Giovanni van Bronckhorst's Feyenoord in their Group A opener against the heavily fancied favourites.
