Michael Essien has convinced Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho to stick around at Stamford Bridge.

Mourinho saw a different side to Essien, 24, this summer when he went home to Ghana to do some charity work.

Mourinho said: "Michael is one of the reasons why, in my fourth season at the club, I wish to stay for a long time. I enjoy working with these kind of people.

"They love to work, they are professional, they have good relations with each other and we have a face-to-face, eye-to-eye relationship everyday.

"Michael is just one example but the others are the same. We have a top group."
