Mourinho expects Chelsea improvement next season

Jose Mourinho is confident that Chelsea will be an even better side next season.

The Blues were knocked out of the Champions League at the semi-final stage by Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night, losing 3-1 at home, to come up short in Europe's premier club competition.

Mourinho's men also sit second on the Premier League table, two points behind Liverpool with two matches remaining, but the Portuguese is planning a much-improved squad to perform at an even higher standard both domestically and continentally in the 2014/15 season.

"Next season will be better than this season," he told Sky Sports.

"We are discussing the Premier League with two matches to go which is an improvement from previous seasons and to arrive in the Champions League after being knocked out in group stage is a step up.

"Hopefully we can bring in a couple of players to improve the team, but I am happy with the players and what they have done - today we did not have happiness in our team, but until the penalty (scored by Diego Costa) they were not the better team but I congratulate them."
