Gary Neville is on Jose Mourinho's shortlist of names to join his staff should he land the Manchester United job.
The Sunday World Mourinho wants to hand a United legend a key role on his coaching staff if he gets the green light to take over at Old Trafford - paving the way for Ryan Giggs or Gary Neville to complete his dream ticket.
Mourinho's advisers made the offer to United chiefs in recent days, with the club's current assistant manager Giggs and recently sacked Valencia boss Neville in the mix for the key role.
“There has clearly been some opposition to Mourinho getting the job at United, but bringing Giggs or Neville in as an assistant would be a bold move," a source told the Sunday World.
“While Mourinho's advisers still think he will get the Man Utd job, he wants to join a club where he has the backing of everyone and this move to could silence a few doubters at United."
Mourinho's established coaching team featuring Rui Faria and Silvino Louro would join him in Manchester, but he is ready to drop an 'outsider' into his close knit group as he looks to secure his dream job at United.
