Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho was delighted with victory over Malaga.

Real thumped their big-spending opponents 4-0.

Mourinho said: "We gave a fantastic performance in the first half. We also played a solid game against Olympique Lyonnais, but our first half tonight was better. You can't compare either of the halves tonight; it's impossible because you can't do better than that. We played a great first half in which we sentenced the match. Malaga weren't the side they were after half-time, and that's to our credit.

"I liked everything. We played well at one-touch and two-touch football, our movements without the ball were good, and our right backs and centre midfielders pressurised further up the pitch. I liked my team in every aspect of the game and we scored all sorts of goals: from set pieces, following steals in attack....

"We gave a varied performance. I knew we wouldn't play the same way after half-time. You always concentrate less in the second half and we faced a rabid opponent that wanted a better result and, therefore, the game evened out."
